Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Brandon is a strong two-way prospect who continued to show well at the UAAAPS Tournament. In the field, Brandon shows a good prep step and fields in a square position. He throws from a high 3/4 angle and keeps his throws consistently on-line across the diamond. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid getting into his load and comes through well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed which leads to hard contact and solid pop to his pull side. On the mound, Brandon works fast with an 82mph fastball with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 68-70mph with 11-5 break. Changeup ranges from 66-68mph. Brandon has a solid outing at the event, striking out eight batters. Brandon is a talented prospect who has the skills that will translate to the next level.

10/01/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Georgetown, TX Brandon is a well-built catching prospect who has a talented skill set. Offensively, Brandon has a tall, open setup with his weight in the front of his stance. He takes a long stride as he partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Brandon shows fast bat speed with an on-plane swing path getting good extension at contact. He shows above average power producing hard contact. Behind the plate, Brandon has an effective setup and tracks the ball well. He presents a good target and receives the ball with a firm glove. Brandon has a clean exchange and throws from a high 3/4 arm slot. Overall, Brandon has skill on both sides of the ball and potential to get even better.

05/07/2017 - College PREP - College Station, TX Brandon is a broad, strong RHP/3B who has a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Arm strength is outstanding as indicated by his top velocity of 86 mph. Fastball showed a range of 82-84 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a feel for pitch with sinking action. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At 3B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Hands are soft / sure but will benefit by presenting more out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with carry across the diamond. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying well above average with outstanding power potential. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. With 2 years to further develop, Brandon has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
