05/17/2015 - College PREP - New Orleans, LA Brandt showed his strongest ability to date at his most recent Factory outing. Defensively behind the dish, he was subtle with the glove to receive out in front and had quick feet to throw - pops in 2.1 range. He sits with ease and athleticism and showed the ability to stick the outer half pitches. He had some feel to block and deaden in front, but could become quicker right and left. Offensively, he showed pop with his activated hands and on-time launch. He generated good bat whip and rotated his core to generate that torque. In all - Brandt has a great baseball frame to add strength to over the next year.

09/22/2013 - College PREP - New Orleans, LA Sonnier showed only as a catcher at the event but has improved his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date and will benefit by continuing to increase foot quickness. Pop times have improved as he showed a range of 2.30-2.42 with accuracy on his throws and gains ground to his target through a clean transfer / exchange. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, power numbers have increased, now showing slightly above average through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a short, direct swing path. He shows feel for the barrel with power numbers continuing to improve as he learns to use his lower half more.

07/27/2012 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Brandt is a tall/athletic 2016 graduate who plays C/3B. He has a quick/accurate arm with life/carry. Behind the plate he has an athletic/low/wide set-up, presents a good target, he has sure/firm hands, quick/active feet, he bodies the ball when blocking. As an infielder Brandt needs to work on his basic fielding position, routes to the ball and his footwork (speed/agility). At the plate he showed good balance and smooth rhythm but he needs to load more, use his lower half more and adjust his swing path from chopping down to being on-plane to the pitch. Brandt displayed a lot of good things at Pirate City, especially behind the plate and as a hitter. He possesses all the natural ability to be a very good player if he can make adjustments and work hard to implement them into his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
