Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/2BPosition Projection

06/13/2009 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1 Bailey lowered his 60-yard dash slightly, down from 7.38 to 7.33. In addition, he showed improved control along with a better delivery and better arm action then we saw previously. His control and his secondary pitches were improved. He threw a lot of strikes, and pitched to contact well. His best breaking balls had nice two plane action. In general, breaking his hands in better sequence with his lower half will help greatly, his arm needs a little more time to work on the backside. Defensively, he showed good hands and an accurate arm. At the plate, he showed some quickness in his hands and used the whole field well. Can work to get loaded sooner, and needs to add strength. Overall, showed better as a position player this time out - was previously much better on the mound, where he still likely has more value as a college prospect.

01/19/2009 - College PREP - Tucson, AZ Brandyn is a RHP with a tall, lanky body that shows projection as it continues to physically mature and fill out. He shows some strength in his upper half. Arm strength is slightly above average and he needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in developing more arm strength and raise in velocities. Fastball is straight but locates well to both sides of the plate. Split finger is his best off speed pitch showing a tumbling action with sink. Changeup is average showing an average feel. Breaking ball is near average and needs further development to be a quality pitch at the next level. Delivery is average showing in line direction but will be more efficient with some mechanical work. He throws strikes and shows a solid mound presence. At the plate, Bailey has near above average ability and power. He displays quick hands and shows a solid feel for the barrel through a level swing path. He will hit at the next level and with his athletic ability could be a two way player. He will catch the eyes of some collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
