06/22/2012 - California Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14) Brendan is an athletic 2016 graduate who is a C/SS. He has very good arm strength, short arm action, quick release and he is accurate to his target. Behind the plate, Brendan is a natural leader, an athletic/flexible/low/wide set-up, he has sure/firm hands and quick feet. Blocking, Brendan centers the ball, deadens it and keeps his head down. His set-up needs to be more square but he is an agile/polished prospect behind the plate. At the plate, Brendan has an athletic set-up, he consistently squares the ball up and he uses the whole field. He needs to gain some ground with his stride foot, get it down sooner and use his lower half more. Brendan is a great kid with a lot of talent, especially behind the plate. If he makes some adjustments as a hitter and continues to progress defensively Brendan should be a standout player in the future.

02/19/2012 - National Tryout - San Jose, CA Brendan showed well both behind the plate and on the mound in San Jose. Defensively, Brendan showed fluid feet, sure hands, and he tracks the ball well. He has a soft chest when blocking, he covers ground well, and he throws with a short arm action with consistency to his target. On the hill, Brendan has good balance, on-time separation, and he keeps his shoulders level. He has good movement on his FB, he keeps his CH low, and he finishes in an athletic position. At the plate, Brendan has a square set-up, good balance, and quick hands. He has direct hands to the ball, he makes square contact, and he uses all fields.

11/11/2010 - Arizona Fall Select Training & Competition - 2010 Brendan is a young, thin, 2-way player who will graduate in 2015. Behind the plate, Brendan's hands and feet work well, and he looks the ball in. He gains some ground, has a quick release, and he throws online to his target. Brendan will need to lower his stance, and strengthen his body to improve defensive abilities. On the mound, Brendan has a simple delivery and he repeats it well. He works in good tempo, he fills the zone with strikes, and he attacks hitter with his FB. If Brendan can generate more lower 1/2 power, add arm strength, and develop off-speed pitches we will see mound effectiveness rise. Offensively, Brendan has good balance and a level swing path. He tries to stay through the ball and he puts it in play. Brendan will need to keep his hands high, and swing in a better rhythm for offensive tool grades to rise.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
