Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Cuni showed as a 3B/RHP at the event cut currently projects best at 3B for the next level where he shows solid average abilities across the board. Feet are active as he moves well laterally and presents clean hands well out front. He needs to attack ground balls more and play through to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate, flashing carry across the diamond as he gets rid of ball well at the plate; he shows a squared setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed to and through a level swing path. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 74-78 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 65-69 mph with sharp break. He maintains arm speed on a downhill plane and displays plus sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is developed.

08/06/2012 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Cuni continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities, especially on the mound. His arm strength has improved as he threw his best velocity to date at 82 mph. Fastball showed a range of 78-82 mph with late arm side sink. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with tight spin and flashes potential when he stays on top. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. At 3B, his feet are active as he works to square balls up. He needs to be more aggressive, increase foot speed, and present his hands more out front to continue to improve defensive grades. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup with rhythm. His hands are quick, flashing bat speed to and through the ball at contact. He shows a solid feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered.

06/22/2012 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Brenden has made great strides in becoming a better defensive player. He field the ball with soft hands out in front of his body and improved on attacking slow rollers. His defensive abilities should continue to develop as he learns to stay athletic and work through the ball. At the plate he has a strong setup and his hands work well to create some solid extension through contact. His offensive tools should continue to improve as he learns to stay back and allow the ball to travel deeper in the hitting zone. On the mound he has an easy arm action and extends well over his front knee, but tends to float away from the rubber instead of driving to the plate with his lower half. Brenden displayed the ability to be mentally tough on the field and his desire to compete will help him as he continue to play the game.

02/26/2012 - College PREP - Brentwood (Long Island), NY Brenden in a 2013 graduate who plays 3B and is a RHP. Defensively at 3B, he show a square fielding position, playable footwork and soft hands. He has good lateral movement and makes plays to his backhand and glove side. If he can present his glove earlier and field further out in front, defensive abilities can improve. On the mound, he delivers 3 different pitches from a high 3/4 arm slot and good balance. He has on-time separation, good rhythm, and he stays in-line toward the plate. FB shows some arm-side run and ranges from 74 - 77 mph. More extension on his finish and a more consistent CB will help to improve mound effectiveness. Offensively, he stays compact and has some batspeed. He has good rhythm and in a line-drive type hitter. If he can use more of his lower 1/2 and use more of the opposite field, hitting abilities will improve. Cuni will continue to improve as he works hard.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
