08/01/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Brenden continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 81 mph. Fastball shows a range of 80-81 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to develop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At SS, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up. Glove action is clean and he presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, he continues to shine through a tall / open setup. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

04/22/2018 - College PREP - Grand Rapids, MI Brenden is an athletic and talented 2019 2-way player. At SS, Brenden has an active prep step and presents a low/early glove. He fields the ball out in front of his body, has a clean exchange, and throws from multiple arm angles. On the bump, Brenden gathers over the rubber, he separates on time, and extends through his release. He shows fastball command and has good direction downhill. At the plate, Brenden starts in a squared stance and gets his front foot down on time. He stays balanced through contact and drives the ball gap to gap. Brenden will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
