In the field, Brennen shows active footwork and takes good angles to the ball. He gets into a square position and fields the ball out in front of his body. His exchange is clean and he gains ground well on his throws, keeping them consistent to his target. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a closed stance and is smooth to load. He works through a level swing and hits against a strong front side, producing consistent contact to his pull side. On the mound, Brennen operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 55mph. Slider sits from 49-50mph. Curveball sits from 45-47mph. With six more years to develop, Brennen has the time and potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

Academic All-American Tournament (MS) Brennen is a class of 2027 LHP/OF prospect. In the field, he does a very good job of getting himself in a ready position. In the OF, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he tracks proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. He moves well laterally with range improving as he continues to increase foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick and work through level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 49-52 with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

As a hitter, this lefty displays an open stance with active hands. He takes a hack, barrels the ball up and sprays line-drives. Shortening his stride (avoid lunging) while engaging his lower 1/2 will help to improve power at the plate. Vega (2027 grad) is still very young and has a ton of time to develop his tools and physical mature (get stronger).

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
