12/27/2012 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament Brent showed well on the mound during his time in Pirate City. On the hill, Brent has good mechanics, a long / quick arm action, and on-time separation. He has level shoulders, he works quickly, and he mixes his pitches well. At the plate, Brent has a good eye for the zone, a square set-up, and he makes some consistent contact.

09/22/2012 - Pitching/Catching Accelerated Training Weekend (Commuter) (Ages 14-18) Brent is a talented RHP who is improving each time we see him. He has a tall, projectable body and will improve as he starts to fill out his large frame. On the mound he has an over-the-top arm arm angle with good arm speed. He sees occasional run on his fastball, and throws it predominantly for strikes. He has a sharp 12/6 CB which he throws with FB arm speed. He is able to locate his CB which is a plus pitch for him. HIs CH has some run to it, as he throw it will good arms speed and is able to consistently locate. Brett has a strong lower half and gets good extension. He will benefit from getting more downhill on his pitches, which will come with increased mobility in his lower and the ability to increase his stride. Brett is a projectable young arm who should continue to improve with increased mobility and strength.

07/17/2012 - College PREP - Sanford (Orlando), FL Brent is a tall and long limbed pitcher that will graduate in 2013. He shows good command of his fastball and curve ball with a repeatable delivery and good balance throughout. He throws straight over the top getting slight action to his fastball showing speeds between 79-81 mph. His curve ball has 12/6 shape with sharp movement and good arm speed. He throws a straight change that needs some work starting with taking some off the pitch to allow movement and a change of speed compared to the fastball. He is on time with his hand separation, keeps his shoulders level throughout his delivery and is in line to his target. He needs to continue to work on getting better extension out front, land with a relaxed front leg and get a better finish with his upper body after releasing the ball. Brent needs to continue to get stronger physically and continue to work on a change-up that will give him better results against left handed hitters.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
