01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament
Brenton continues to show progress in baseball tools. Behind the plate, pop times showed a range of 2.09-2.25 with accuracy and on line carry on his throws. Feet are active, working in line to his target as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. He plays with a ton of energy and shows the ability to handle a pitching staff with his receiving / blocking skills. At the plate, hands works inside the baseball as he utilizes all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. At the event, he drew 4 BB as he shows good plate discipline and strike zone awareness. Brenton has a ton of potential and is a sure player to follow.

Brenton is the kind of player you want on your team. He is a leader both vocally and by example and he has a true passion for the game. His mix of work ethic, tools and ability to play the game is a formula for winning. He is presently strong and it is evident in the way the ball comes off his bat. He has legitimate power that shows up mostly from LCF to the line. He has late explosion in his hands and handles the bat head very well - squaring up a high percentage of pitches. Defensively Brenton receives with strong hands, blocks well and has a quick exchange on throws to 2B. His arm is accurate and he has the durable build that can handle lots of games behind the dish. His athleticism and attitude make him a versatile performer who is capable at either corner IF spot as well. This is a quality young prospect to follow.
07/10/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National East
This strong RHH backstop continues to show well. Behind the dish, he puts his athleticism on display as he has quick footwork and moves well laterally, deadening pitches in the dirt off of his chest. Offensively, he likes the pitch on the inner 1/2 and will pull it with power. He will be a run producer with his ability to drive the ball to the deep parts of the park. Brenton (6'0"/190) has a solid all-around skill set that will translate well into the next level.

Johnston continues to shine on the diamond. At the plate, this strong righty shows an athletic setup with rhythm in his hands. He connects with pop, engages his lower 1/2 and extends through the zone well. He hits the ball where it's pitched and drives it to all parts of the field. Behind the dish, he sits in well with flexion while presenting a low target. Exchange is quick as he puts his throws on the 2B bag (pop times of 2.00). At 3B, Brenton shows athletic actions while moving well laterally. He funnels the GB to a quick/clean exchange as he gains ground and works in-line toward 1B. Brenton is a versatile player who will play at a high level.
12/27/2014 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic
This strong athlete continues to shine on the diamond. With the bat, this righty stands in with a solid base and smooth rhythm to load. He gets good hand separation, drives the barrel through a short/compact path and connects. He hits the ball where it's pitched and has the ability to spray the gaps. Behind the dish, he has quiet/simple actions as he sits in well. He gains ground on his throws to 2B with pop times still in the low 2's. He is a vocal leader and commands the game. Brenton has a high ceiling and will make a great addition to any squad. Only a 2016 grad - he is one to keep an eye on.
10/26/2014 - College PREP - Corpus Christi, TX
Brenton showed great improvement in his last Baseball Factory outing. His velocity jumped up to 81 and his pop times dropped to an all time low (2.01). He has shown development in his physique with broad shoulders and a solid frame. Behind the dish, he sits well sticking pitches with a firm wrist. He showed great energy and ability to block balls laterally. In the OF, he showed the ability to use 2 hands at all times and play through the GB. Improving his transfer and 1st step will take his OF abilities to the next level. At the plate, he has pop to the pull side with impressive lower half rotation. Staying with a level swing and hitting the inside of the ball will allow Brenton's abilities to improve. This rising junior continues to improve and display great characteristics of a college player.
06/21/2014 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2
Brenton performed well behind the plate in Omaha. He receives well, his hands are soft, and his footwork is sound. He has good body control, his exchange is solid, and he throws with carry to 2nd base with pop times as low as 2.1. On the mound, Brenton has a repeatable delivery, good mound presence, and good direction toward home. At the plate, Brenton is a gap to gap hitter with level hips and good bat speed. He makes consistent contact and has good strength in his swing.
10/27/2013 - College PREP - Corpus Christi, TX
Brenton is a 2-way player who is a strong hitter. Offensively, he displays a tall/open stance and gets back into a loaded position. He likes the pitch middle-in and has some pull-side pop. He puts the ball in play and is a top of the line-up type guy. Behind the dish, he sits in well and shows good flexion. He gets around the ball in the dirt, centering and smothering it off of his chest. He works in-line toward 2B getting the ball down the 2nd in as low as 2.10. In the OF, he takes good routes and gets into position behind the fly-ball well. He has clean exchange and makes accurate throws into his target. An agility program will help to improve abilities in the OF. As only a sophomore, Brenton has a lot of time to develop his game.
01/18/2013 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City
Brenton is a young C/OF that will graduate in 2016. Currently, he projects slightly better defensively for the next level. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angels and works to get behind balls as he plays through well. He needs to work to improve foot speed to continue to improve foot speed. Behind the plate, Feet are active, working in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times showed a range of 2.37-2.75 with accuracy on his throws. Time will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills shows as playable tools as he continues to improve. At the plate, he works through an athletic setup with rhythm. Hands are loose in working to and through a level swing path. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to keep two hands on the bat more and use his lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and wants to be the best player he can be and is a tough kid. With 3 years to further develop, Brenton has abilities with time and room to continue to improve.
