07/25/2009 - Team One North 2009 Bret continues to show steady improvement in his baseball abilities. Foot speed is a plus and he utilizes his feet well in on his approach on ground balls. Arm strength continues to shine displaying life, carry, and accuracy on his throws across the diamond. At the plate, Blevins shows a line drive approach through a long swing path created in his load. He was 1 for 5 with 1B at the event.

05/10/2009 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD Bret is a two-way player at SS and on the mound with a tall, lean, and athletic looking body that is well suited for both positions. Currently, he projects best at SS where he shows off his athletic abilities. Foot speed is well above average and he utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in coming to get the baseball in the IF. He maintains body control and shows plus lateral movement, displaying range. Glove action is late at times and he needs to present more out front. Defensive abilities are near above average. Arm strength is well above average displaying life, carry, and accuracy through a quick arm action. Hands and feet work well together in getting rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, hitting abilities and power and near above average. Hands are quick and direct to the baseball, generating bat speed. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a solid feel for the barrel. On the mound, fastball is flat but locates down in the zone. Off speed pitches are solid average. Breaking ball displays an 11/5 shape with tight spin and late breaking action. He needs to work on being more consistent with his release point. Changeup shows a decent feel with arm side run. Slider shows a short break but looks like his breaking ball. Bret has a ton of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his play in the IF and at the plate.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
