07/28/2021 - Baseball Factory Southwest Championships 17U Bret continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.39 runner. At SS, defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. He moves well laterally and covers ground in the MIF. Throws are accurate with carry (83 mph velocity) across the diamond. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick (90 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. He has strength in his swing and makes consistent hard contact. At the event, he was 4 for 9 with a 2B. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 75 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight sink. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

06/06/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Boise, ID Bret is a SS/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2022. Tall frame athletic build with plenty of physical projection remaining. On the mound, this right-handed pitcher has long levers and projectible frame. Works down the mound with ability to plane out. FB was up to 74mph with some running action through the zone. Early break on breaking ball with 11/5 sweeping action. Throws a slider from the same window. Slider was his best pitch during his bullpen. Flashes a developing changeup with some movement. At SS, Bret has a good pre-pitch routine and quick feet that enables him to cover ground in all directions. Athletic fielding position, with a low funnel, and a quick transfer. Showed ability to throw from multiple arm slots and had an arm velocity of 82mph. Accurate and online throws, with good carry, across diamond during his workout. A right-handed hitter with an upright and even stance. Solid base , with good hip turn, and showed good extension. Showed ability to make hard contact to the pull side during his round of BP. Recorded a bat exit velocity of 84mph. With continued growth and development, we foresee him having opportunities to play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
