Official Scouting Report

  • C/3BPosition Projection

10/28/2018 - College PREP - Joplin, MO Brett is a strong C/3B prospect who will graduate in 2020. Behind the plate, Brett shows quick footwork and is agile moving to block. He presents a good target to the pitcher and receives well. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws to 2B, keeping them on-line to the bag. Getting into a more athletic stance can help Brett improve as a C. At 3B, Brett shows active footwork and fields in a square position. He makes a quick exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate with good carry through his target. Brett can improve as a 3B by fielding the ball out in front of his body. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He gets into his load and controls his barrel well, leading to solid line drives. Driving his lower half more can help Brett improve as a hitter. Overall, Brett is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

05/20/2018 - College PREP - Gambrills, MD Brett continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through a squared setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone through a line drive approach. With flexion and good sway he pockets pitches with a soft/sure mitt. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.06. Receiving / blocking skills show as solid tools that will play well at the next level. He did show at 3B, displaying a low approach. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. A talented prospect - he will make things happen both behind the dish as well as with the bat.

11/09/2017 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City (Ages 14-18) Brett is an athletic, R/R (C/3B) who showed well during his time at Pirate City. He made several improvements to his game since we last saw him. Behind the plate, he sits in well with athletic actions and good sway. Lateral movements are quick as he gets around and centers pitches in the dirt off of his chest. Transfer/exchange is clean with accuracy on throws down to 2B, pop times now as low at 2.18. As a hitter, Brett displays an athletic setup with fluid rhythm to load. He tracks pitches into the zone and off of his barrel as he squares the ball up consistently and hits line-drives (collecting a single and a double at the event). Continuing to work on driving the ball on the outer 1/2 the other way (tee drills) will aid in his offensive development. Brett is a gamer who brings it everyday. A 2020 grad, he has a solid skill-set and should make an impact in this only his sophomore year.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
