Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/SSPosition Projection

01/14/2011 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2011 Brett showed improvements both defensively and on the mound at the UA Pre-Season. At 3rd base, Brett has fluid actions, sure hands, and is aggressive to the ball. He keeps his feet active, fields through the baseball, and has a clean exchange. Brett has a quick / accurate arm with accuracy to his target. On the mound, Brett has a free / short arm, good balance, and a quiet head. He has good deception with his pitches, keeps them down in the zone, and gets outs. At the plate, Brett has good bat speed, has a level swing path, and puts the ball in play. He can hit the ball to the opposite field, and puts pressure on the defense.

12/18/2010 - Christmas Camp and Tournament 2010 - Session 1 Gottich showed well both in the INF and on the mound at Pirate City. Defensive skills are sound with good positioning, an aggressive approach, and a solid arm action. Brett keeps the ball in front of his body and delivers it accurately across the diamond. Abilities on the mound were effective with his FB touching 77 MPH. He has good balance, he attacks hitters, and he competes in the zone. Brett pitched a very nice game in the Championship of the Tournament. Offensively, Brett is a good contact hitter who has the ability to spray the baseball. He has a patient approach, good strike zone discipline, and he works the middle of the field.

11/21/2010 - College PREP - Germantown, TN Brett is a two-way player on the mound plus at SS with a broad, strong frame that is well suited for his positions. Currently, he projects best in the IF for the next level. Foot speed is near average as he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness to play in the middle of the IF. Feet are active in coming to get and playing through the baseball with his body as he presents his glove out front, displaying soft, clean hands. He gets rid of the baseball quickly with hands and feet working well together. Instincts are a plus and he communicates well on the field. Throws show carry and accuracy across the diamond but he needs to get on a long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength. Offensively, Gottlich continues to shine through an aggressive approach. Hands are quick and direct to the baseball as he shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. He has strength in his swing and will hit with gap to gap power. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 77-79 mph with arm side run. Changeup is best off speed pitch showing feel with arm side run but drops arm slot tipping off pitch. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Brett has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his offensive and defensive abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
