Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

01/06/2013 - National Tryout - San Antonio, TX Stillman continues to show as a 1B/RHP but currently projects best at 1B for the next level where he has improved his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Feet are active as he displays good footwork around the bag and is aggressive as he attacks ground balls with his body. Hands are soft / clean as he presents well out front. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Brett shows a balanced setup with rhythm. Hands work through a level swing path and he makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. He needs to work to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields and continue to improve hitting grade. Power numbers will increase as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 74-75 mph. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Split finger is his best off speed pitch, showing a feel for with tumbling action downward. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained.

12/19/2012 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament Brett is a young two-position player. At Pirate City, he showed some agility and body control in the infield. His footwork is active, and his arm is accurate. His hands can soften up some, and would like to see him polish up his footwork around the bag as well. With the bat, he has a pretty good feel for the barrel. Would like to see him utilize his lower half more effectively, and let pitches travel deeper into the hitting zone as well. He showed good balance to his delivery on the mound and stays on line. He needs to keep his eyes on target and stay level with his shoulders to locate more consistently. He held runners well in the game. Showed some perseverance in his long outing, making adjustments and gaining his command back after early struggles. He will continue to improve with time and may be able to play some 3B down the road as well.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
