10/07/2015 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic This versatile athlete continues to shine every time he steps onto the field. At SS, he moves fluidly to his right and left and seems to glove up anything hit to the left side of the diamond. He presents his glove and fields the GB out in front well. The backhand play deep in the hole is now challenge as he is quick to fire missiles accurately across the diamond to 1B. As a hitter - Brett gets on base consistently. He has an athletic setup with simple/quiet actions waiting for his pitch. Quick twitch - he whips the barrel at pitches in the zone with the ball exploding off of his bat. On the mound, Brett is a reliable righty that will throw strikes. He controls the game well and knows the situations at all times. FB has some run (83 mph) as he works it to both sides of the dish. Curveball shows to be best off-speed pitch with 12/6 shape and sharp action. He has the ability to change his arm slot - helping to create deception and an uncomfortable at bat. Whitney is a gamer who can make things happen is a variety of ways on the diamond.

07/29/2015 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 17U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Brett showed very well during his time at UASW. As a hitter, he steps into the box with a purpose. He shows a quiet/comfortable approach with fluid rhythm in his hands. He has good zone awareness and doesn't swing at many pitches that he can't drive. Quick hands whip the barrel and he engages his lower 1/2 well creating torque and generating pop off of his barrel. Foot speed has improved as he dropped his 60 time to 7.00. In the MIF, he has smooth/athletic actions working well right to left through the GB. Throws are strong as he zips the ball across the diamond. On the mound, Brett's arm works loose & free through a repeatable delivery. He pounds the zone and throws strikes with all 3 pitches. Curveball is very effective with sharp action. Runners have a hard time getting a read on him as he varies his looks well. Brett has a high baseball IQ and is always thinking on play ahead. This versatile 2-way player is a solid prospect who has a very bright future ahead of him.

04/26/2015 - National Tryout - Union City, CA Brett continues to shine on the diamond. Defensively at SS, he puts his athleticism on display working light on his feet. He has quick actions, funnels smoothly and plays through the ball well. Transfer/exchange is quick with strong throws across the diamond. With the bat, this RHH shows a square setup with good balance. He whips the barrel through the zone, squares the ball up and hits line drives. This athlete has a ton of upside and will make things happen when he steps onto the field.

04/19/2015 - National Tryout - Lodi (Sacramento), CA Brett continues to work hard on his game. Wirth the bat, this RH swinger shows an open stance with rhythm in his hands. He whips the barrel through the zone with bat speed as he connects and creates hard contact. At SS, he shows active footwork moving well around the GB. He moves well to his glove-side, gets his shoulders in-line and has a clean exchange to throw. Working to field the ball more out in front will help to avoid getting the in-between hop. On the mound, Brett continues to pound the zone with strikes. FB now tops out at 78 mph while showing slight tail. He repeats his delivery well and stays directional toward the dish. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with gradual action while splitter has good drop. Added velocity will come with more lower 1/2 drive. Whitney is a hard worker who should find success on the diamond.

12/27/2013 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Brett is a solid all-around player who has upside. He has worked hard at his game and continues to make improvements. His 60 time is his best to date, running a 7.33. Continuing to quicken footwork not only helps his defensive game but will also make him that much more aggressive on the base paths. Densively, his quick actions allow him to work through the ground ball, moving right to left. He gathers well and delivers accurate throws to 1B. As a hitter, Bret gets back into a loaded position and delivers the barrel on a level path, driving it to all fields. He uses his lower 1/2 well to generate torque and pop off of his barrel. On the mound, his 4-pitch arsenal keeps hitters off balance. He works quickly to the plate and fills up the zone with strikes. Overall - a hard working individual who is willing to make to necessary adjustments to his game to get to where he wants to be.

01/18/2013 - Arizona National Spring Training Whitney continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.51 runner. Feet are active as he works to square balls up, displaying clean hands. For defensive grades to continue to improve, he needs to play through balls and present glove more out front. Throws are accurate and he gets rid of the baseball quickly but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting / power grades have improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact and uses his lower half well with power numbers improving as he learns to use his lower half well. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

01/14/2011 - Arizona National Spring Training - 2011 Brett is a young (2016) two-way player at SS plus in the OF with a thin, athletic frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature and fill out. Foot speed is below average as he must get on a long toss program to aid in improving foot quickness for the next level. At SS, feet are active and aggressive in coming to get while playing through ground balls with his body. Hands are soft and clean displaying solid glove action in making the plays. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind, playing through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate as he sets his feet well. He will benefit by getting on a long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength with carry. Offensively, Whitney shows a balanced approach and loads well. Hands work inside the ball as he utilizes all fields. He makes consistent contact with power numbers improving as he gains more overall body strength. On the bases, he is a savvy base runner that will take the extra base. With 5 years to further develop, Brett has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
