Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/SSPosition Projection

11/07/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Cantillo showed as a RHP plus at SS for the first time at the event. At SS, he shows good pre pitch setup and displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as he works to square balls up, displaying clean hands. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack balls more, present hands more out front, and increase foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Brian shows an open / athletic stance with balance. Hands are loose and work through a direct / level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a solid line drive approach. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to stay back and transfer weight properly through his lower half. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 74-77 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with tight spin and gradual break. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength and works to throw more strikes. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

07/15/2013 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Brian is a lean RHP that will graduate in 2015. Logan is a tall, lean RHP that will graduate in 2015. Delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his quick arm action to work well to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 74-76 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with loose spin and gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a plus feel for with arm side run. Slider resembles breaking ball with 10/4 shape with short break. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
