Official Scouting Report

09/15/2019 - College PREP - Kansas City, KS Brian continues to shine on the diamond. At 1B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and he is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Throws are accurate to his target with on line carry (83 mph velocity) but will benefit by working to get rid of the baseball quicker. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he showed as a switch hitter for the first time with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick and works through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 78-79 mph. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with early break. Slider is harder with 10/4 shape and gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength through a long toss program.

09/16/2018 - College PREP - Parkville (Kansas City), MO Brian is a tall, athletic RHP/OF who has a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 78-79 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with downward break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to develop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. In the OF, he displays fluid / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through more with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate he shows a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 2 years to further develop, Brian has potential with a lot of room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
