06/01/2019 - 2019 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Brian is an athletic RHH MIF that shows as a top prospect on the diamond. At the plate, hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) as he squares the ball up consistently driving it on a line. Defensively, he takes a quick first step (6.99 60 time) and has plus lateral range. He creates angles around the GB with fluid actions. DP turns are quick with zip (90 mph velocity) on his throws. Defensive abilities are at a pro level as he shows big play potential. Brian has a ton of upside and possesses the skill set that will play at a very high level.

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament In just a little over a year since we last saw him, Brian McClellin showed awesome improvements to all aspects of his game at the UAAAPS event. His raw arm velocity went up to 89 mph, and his exit velo jumped a staggering 10 mph - now hitting 89 mph. His sixty time improved significantly as well, getting him down to the low 7.1 seconds. His playing ability at SS continues to show growth and his sure hands will allow him to keep playing the infield at the next level as the game speeds up. At the plate, he gets to a strong, activated hitting position and stays on plane through contact. He generates fast bat speed with good hand and hip coordination. In all - it's players like Brian that truly intrigue us, as we see a continued upward trend of growth from every outing.

12/03/2017 - College PREP - Sacramento, CA Brian continues to shine on the diamond. At the plate, this righty displays an athletic/open stance with fluid rhythm to load. He fires the barrel on a level path to and through the zone, spraying line-drives from gap-to-gap. At SS, he has quick/active footwork and is aggressive to come and get the GB. He works through the ball, has a clean transfer and fires strong throws across the diamond. This 2020 grad possesses the all-around skill-set that will make an impact every time he steps onto the diamond.

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 12-14) Brian is a young middle infielder with a nice lean frame. He plays with the proper footwork, creates angles and works through the ball well. A nice quick exchange and aggressive nature to the ball allow him to make the routine plays and he sports a nice arm across the infield. Offensively, Brian has an athletic setup, soft stride, and solid load. His timing is very good and his barrel stays in the hitting zone throughout the swing and contact point. At the event he put the ball in play sharply in each of his plate appearances. As he allows himself to gain more experience he has a lot of room to grow as player mentally and will develop athletically as well.

07/24/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Brian is a lean SS that will graduate in 2020. In the MIF, feet are active as he moves well laterally. Hands are clean and he works to square balls up as he makes the routine plays. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he presents hand more out front and improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup with good tempo. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball as he utilizes all fields through a solid line drive approach. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 5 years to further develop, Brian has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
