02/25/2023 - National Showcase - Palmyra (Harrisburg), PA Brian is an OF/SS prospect who will graduate in 2025. Medium frame athletic build with strength present and room to add strength throughout. In the OF, showed quick/fluid footwork, with good body control, and ability to cover ground in all directions. Fields from an athletic/square fielding position and fields out front with quick transfer. Works behind/through the baseball with a clean gather off left foot. Throws from a high 3/4 arm slot and arm velocity up to 79mph into infield. In the infield, he starts with a good pre-pitch routine and ability to make routine plays. Fields from an athletic/square fielding position with a quick/clean transfer. Showed ability to throw from multiple arm angles with a quick release. A right-handed hitter, he hits from a crouched and square stance. Center balance at contact point, with a flat barrel path, and ability to get extended out front. Hit line drives into both gaps with a bat exit velocity up to 82mph during BP. With 2 years of continued growth and development, we see this 2-way prospect having a bright future on the baseball field.

01/14/2022 - 2022 Baseball Factory Rookie Pre-Season All-America Tournament Brian McDermott is a MINF/OF prospect out of Wilmington, DE. Defensively he has a presence that is beyond his years at the SS position. He presents soft hands and makes the routine plays look easy. The arm strength will continue to develop as he fills out his frame. Offensively he does a good job staying on plane and through the ball. The late bat whip gives him a quality to hit for potential power as he gets older. Brian shows good barrel accuracy at the plate and a repeatable swing. Mechanically this prospect is solid and should continue to grow into a solid contributor at the HS level and beyond.

07/30/2021 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training at Jackie Robinson Training Complex (MS) Brian is a SS/OF/RHP prospect out of Wilmington, DE who will graduate in 2025. In the field, he starts in an athletic position on the balls of his feet and has efficient footwork. He works through the ball and showed ability to finish the play. He fields from an athletic/low fielding position with soft hands out front. He has a quick exchange and his throws were accurate to his target. Good carry on his throws with an arm velocity up to 71mph. At the plate, he sets up in an athletic and even stance with comfortable hands. Good rhythm to his load and stride with a compact swing. He works to barrel up the baseball and drives the ball into both gaps with a bat exit velocity of 68mph during his round of BP. On the mound, he works exclusively from the stretch. He works with good tempo and showed ability to repeat his delivery. Throws a FB that sits 61-67mph, a 10/4 shaped breaking ball, and a developing changeup. With five more years to develop and mature, we foresee him having a bright future on the baseball field.

08/30/2020 - All-In Membership - Wilmington, DE Brian is a young, R/R 2-way player (SS/RHP) who graduates in 2025. At SS, he hustles into a square fielding position behind the GB. He creates good angles right to left, picks out the hops and gathers well. Transfer is clean with accuracy on his throws. Continuing to develop his footwork/agility will help to increase lateral range. With the bat, this righty shows a tall/open stance with active hands. He jumps on pitches he likes and looks to drive the middle of the field. Working to engage his lower 1/2 more throughout the swing will help to create more pop off of the barrel. On the mound, Brian has a 3-pitch mix (FB, CB, CH) coming from a 3/4 arm slot. He gets some glove-side lead and keeps his eyes on the target. FB ranges from 58-59 mph as he fills up the zone with strikes. Curveball shows 10/4 shape with good action - 50-51 mph. Changeup has some sink as he works to keep it down in the zone. Only a 2025 grad - McDermott has skills and still has a ton of time to develop and physically mature.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
