11/10/2016 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Briar continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.10 runner. In the OF, he reads balls well off the bat and utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles. He works behind the baseball and plays through with momentum to his target and gets rid of the baseball quickly. Range is a plus as he covers a lot of ground. At the plate he has improved his hitting / power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, displaying gap to gap pop. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 74-76 mph with arm side run. Changeup is best off speed pitch as he maintains arm speed with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches, attacking hitters. Building more arm strength through a long toss program will aid in further development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best he can be. With 3 years to further develop, Briar has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two-way guy.
