Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/OFPosition Projection

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Pellow continues to show plus abilities on the mound. He is aggressive and competes on the mound, throwing a lot of strikes. Fastball showed a range of 80-83 mph with arm side run. Changeup has improved as he shows a solid feel for with run and sinking action. Arm action is clean and smooth but he can get more out of his lower half. Brock projects best on the mound and will get looks from the collegiate coaches in need of a quality LHP.

06/19/2009 - USA Baseball 16U Championships (AZ) - 2009 Brock is a young two-way player on the mound and in the OF with a strong looking frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Currently, he projects best on the mound. Delivery is well above average through proper mechanics that allows his arm action to work quickly and freely away from his body. He is smooth and shows solid tempo with easy repeatable actions through the delivery. He can get lower half explosion increasing arm speed. Arm strength is above average and he will benefit by getting on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength and raising velocities. Fastball shows some arm side run at times and locates well to both sides of the plate. He attacks hitters with his fastball, getting ahead in the count. Off speed pitches are solid average. Breaking ball shows a 2/7 shape, tight spin with short and sharp break. Changeup shows a solid feel for and needs to throw more. He had 2 quality appearances at the event, throwing 6 innings and picking up a win in his start with 7 K. Foot speed is near above average and he needs to get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. He utilizes his athletic feet well in tracking down balls in the OF. He needs to work on taking better routes and angles in working to get behind balls to play through with momentum to target. His throws display life and carry into his target and will be well suited for a corner spot in the OF with his near above average defensive abilities. At the plate, Pellow has near above average abilities and power. Hands are quick and direct to the baseball, generating bat speed. Swing path is level as he shows a solid feel for the barrel. Power numbers will continue to increase as he squares up his stance and loads more. He was 6 for 12 with a 2B. Brock has solid makeup as he has a feel for the game and plays hard. With 2 years to further develop, Pellow has potential to be a possible two-way player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
