Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

06/14/2014 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Brody continues to show as a C/RHP but currently projects best at C for the next level. Pop times were in the 2.20 range and shows playable receiving / blocking skills as he continues to improve. At the plate, hitting / power grades have improved, now showing solid average. Hands are quick, generating bat speed and work through a level swing path. He will put the ball in play and makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 76-81 mph with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained, develops better off speed pitches, and works to throw more strikes. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

09/15/2013 - College PREP - Oklahoma City, OK Brody is a lean, athletic C/RHP that will graduate in 2016. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 7.35 60 time. Foot speed is average as indicated by his 7.50 60 time. Feet are accurate, working in line and display a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.03-2.11. Arm strength is well above average with throws displaying accuracy and on line carry into his target. Receiving / blocking skills show as playable tools at the next level as he continues to develop / improve. At the plate, Shook shows a squared / balanced setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. For grades to continue to improve, he needs to work on keeping hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to load more and use his lower half more efficiently. With 3 years to further develop, Brody has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
