09/30/2015 - Arizona Freshman/Sophomore Fall Classic Brooks continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed in the mid 2.20 range with accuracy and carry on his throws. Time will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking tools show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he continues to shine showing improvements through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered as he works to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and a leader behind the dish.

01/16/2015 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Brooks is a talented Catcher with a lot of potential. Behind the plate he has quick feet, receives with sure hands, and moves well laterally when blocking. He has a quick exchange and he makes accurate throws on a line to his target. At the plate he has an open stance, smooth load, and good balance. He uses his lower half well and consistently finds the barrel. He hit solid line drives during BP and he stays in the middle of the field with his approach.

07/25/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Brooks is an athletic catcher that showcased his talent behind the dish. He has quick feet, receives with soft hands, and was able to block everything with proper technique. He is a vocal leader that controls the running game with his strong and accurate throws to 2nd base. Brooks is the type of catcher that every coach wishes they had on their team. He is a gamer that can control the game and really help develop a pitching staff. At the plate he has a smooth load, good balance, and he uses his lower half well. He takes a direct path to the ball and makes consistent contact. He has great barrel accuracy and hit solid line drives during games. Brooks should be fun to watch as he improves his game and gets older.

07/26/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Brooks is a young player with a great baseball IQ and willingness to learn and improve. In the infield, he has an athletic fielding position and has sure hands when fielding ground balls. He has quick footwork but can be more explosive with his lateral steps to increase range. He can work on his transfers and exchanges around the bag at second. Behind the plate, Brooks has an athletic setup on the balls of his feet and he is sure handed receiving the baseball. He anticipates how certain situations will play out and reacts instinctively which is the sign of a smart catcher. He can continue to work on his blocking and his footwork getting in front of the ball. He has a tendency to pick the ball instead of moving to get in front of it. At the plate, he has a good setup and good timing. His balance stays in the center of his body throughout the swing. He can work on getting his weight off of his toes during the swing. In order for his lower half to work well he has to drop his front heel to initiate the swing. Overall, Brooks is a cerebral and solid player who has a positive impact on his team.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
