07/13/2011 - College PREP - Washington DC, MD Brooks is a solid, switch hitting catcher who will graduate in 2012. Behind the plate, Brooks has quiet actions, soft hands, and he looks the ball into his glove. He has fluid / active feet, good flexion, and he catches in a low / athletic position. Brooks blocks the ball well, he deadens it softly, and his exchange is clean. He has a short / loose arm action, and he throws with accuracy and carry to his target. A wider base, following his throws, and adding arm strength will help defensive grades improve. Brooks is equally as good from both sides of the plate. He has an open / athletic stance, a quiet load, and he keeps his hands inside the baseball. Brooks has good balance, a short / square stride, and explosive bat speed. He makes square contact, he can hit to all fields, and he makes good use of his lower 1/2. Letting the ball travel deeper will help hitting improve.
