Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2008 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2008 Janota threw his fastball mostly around 76-78 with some arm side run, and topped at 80. His breaking ball had 11 to 5 shape downer type rolling action, and he had good feel for it - though he threw it mostly for strikes, he likely threw it too much. Would like to see him throw more fastballs, but will need to improve the athletic positions in his delivery in order to be able to. Tended to be a bit upright, and his arm action had excess length in the back and was short out front. At the plate, his swing was long and around the pitch and he tended to cut off at contact. Defensively, he made routine plays but tended to play high and with his hands too deep. His primary value appears to be on the mound, where he has two solid pitches and solid arm strength.

12/14/2008 - National Tryout - Hightstown, NJ Bruno showed as a two way player on the mound and at SS. Currently, he does project best on the mound where he has shown improvement. Arm strength his improved as he topped out at 81 mph. Breaking ball has really improved now displaying an 11/5 shape with tight spin. Arm action is loose and easy. Can improve arm strength by getting on a strict long toss program. In the infield, Janota shows slightly average ability. He moves well laterally but glove action is deep allowing the baseball to get in on his body, dictating play. He does need instruction and work at the plate to hit at the next level. Brunno does show potential ability on the mound and if arm strength continues to grow, he will catch the eyes of the college coaches.

10/05/2008 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Bruno is a young RHP with a tall, thin body that does show projection as it continues to physically mature. Arm strength is average and needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in building more arm strength. Four seam fast is flat with two seam showing arm side run. Breaking ball displays an 11/5 shape with loose spin. He slows arm speed on his breaking ball. Changeup is best off speed pitch showing a solid feel for with sinking action. Command is solid average with all his pitches. Janota has a compact delivery that is very repeatable displaying on time separation and direction. With 2 years to further develop, Bruno should develop into a quality arm, especially if arm strength and velocities continue to rise.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
