Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

01/13/2012 - 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Babcock showed as a two-way player C/RHP at the event. Currently, he projects best as a catcher for the next level. He has a strong arm with his feet working in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange. His throws display accuracy and carry with pop times showing in the 2.10 range. Receiving / blocking skills have improved to outstanding, showing as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, Bryan shows a balanced approach and works to keep his hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, his fastball showed a range of 74-81 mph. Off speed pitches show potential as being quality pitches at the next level. He works to get ahead of hitters and changes speeds well. At the event, he had 3 quality innings with stock on the mound rising quickly if more arm strength is developed.

12/04/2011 - College PREP - Sacramento, CA Bryan is an athletic catcher and has good life in his arm. Behind the plate, Bryan keeps balls in the dirt in front of him and has a clean exchange when throwing down to second. His pop-times can still improve by keeping his exchange working to his right shoulder. At the plate, he has a quiet head and loose hands that stay short to contact. His tools at the plate will continue to improve as he learns to create a more solid base. With his final season of high school baseball approaching, Bryan has the opportunity to showcase his skills and continue to prepare for the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
