12/28/2018 - College PREP - Swarthmore (Philadelphia), PA Cael lowered pop times and showed a spike in hitting numbers during his last workout in Philly. Pop times were lowered to 2.19 seconds to 2nd base. Defensively, Cael has athletic actions, soft hands, and he sits in well. He has quick lateral movements, he blocks well, and has an accurate arm to his target. Offensively, hitting and power grades jumped to 50 and 52 respectively. Cael stays connected through a simple stroke. He has fast bat speed, an aggressive swing, and he works the ball gap to gap with pop.

10/21/2018 - College PREP - Potomac, MD Cael continues to shine on the diamond with a promising future. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.28 range as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows a solid, flexible base with soft glove that sticks balls in the zone. Blocking skills are a plus as he moves well laterally and gets down quickly, centering balls out front. At the plate, he continues to show plus abilities through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball exploding off the bat when centered.

06/24/2018 - College PREP - Columbia, MD Cael continues to show well on the diamond. Behind the dish, this defensive specialist sits in with a solid base and good sway. He is quick to gain ground toward 2B on his throws down, putting the ball on the bag (pop times now at 2.19). Blocking technique is advanced as he works to center/deaden the ball in front. As a hitter, this righty maintains an athletic setup with centered balance. He whips the barrel, swings against a firm front side, and squares the ball up. He hits line-drives and uses the whole field. This 2019 grad possesses the tools that will play at the next level.

03/11/2018 - College PREP - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Cael showed improvements offensively and defensively during his last workout. Receiving and blocking grades improved to 48 and 50, showing active feet, soft hands, and a low set-up. Cael has good flexion, he uses his body well to block, and throws with accuracy to 2nd base. Offensive numbers both improved to 48's Cael has an aggressive/athletic swing, good barrel accuracy, and he swings in good rhythm. He finds the barrel consistency and can spray to all fields.

08/02/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Cael is a hardworking catching prospect who has an athletic, projectable build and graduates in 2019. Behind the plate, Cael has an effective setup and stays square to the pitcher. He presents a low target and tracks the ball well. He has active footwork and moves well in each direction when blocking. Cael has a loose arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He has good momentum through his release showing strong carry on his throws down to 2B. As a right-handed hitter, Cael has an open setup with his weight in the back of his stance. He takes a load and maintains direction with an open stride. He has a long swing path and is developing bat speed. Cael is a contact type hitter who looks to put the ball in play. Overall, Cael is a well-rounded prospect who plays the game hard and has potential to get even better with development.

04/02/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Cael continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he has improved the most through a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He utilizes his lower half well and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Behind the plate, feet are active as he gains ground and works through a clean / transfer exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.35 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft as he lets the ball travel and tracks well, sticking in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get body down sooner to improve blocking grade.

10/01/2016 - Pitching & Catching Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 14-18) Cael continued to show his skills behind the plate at the Accelerated Training Weekend. Cael has a long arm action to throw and keeps his throws accurate and on-line to his target. Cael can improve as a catcher by letting the ball travel deeper to receive and by working to be more consistant when blocking balls in the dirt. Overall, Cael is a solid catcher who has the time and potential to further develop his skills.

07/06/2015 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition Cael is a young catcher that will graduate in 2019. Feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed in the 2.76 range with accuracy on his throws. This is a major improvement since we last saw him. Times will continue to drop as he continues to increase foot quickness and build more arm strength. He is a big target as a receiver with a good set up. He has flexibility for his size. Working on his blocking (not picking the ball) and lateral movement will help him as he gets older. At the plate, he shows a balanced / athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through compact / level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact, showing a feel for the barrel, displaying gap to gap pop from both sides. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns use his lower half more. But the potential for future power is absolutely there. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, good instincts, and plays with a lot of energy. With 4 years to further develop, Cael has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
