10/19/2016 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Caelan is a hardworking catching prospect who graduates in 2018. As a right-handed hitter, Caelan has a crouched stance with a square stride and good load. He does a nice job engaging his core and hips in his swing. Caelan has a contact approach and produces solid contact to the opposite field. Behind the plate, Caelan presents a low, desirable target. He moves well with effective footwork and is quick to his knees when needing to block. Caelan has a quick arm action from a 3/4 arm slot with his POP times ranging from 2.19-2.39 seconds. Caelan continues to show improvements on the field and has a bright future at the next level.

08/03/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Caelen is a tall, athletic catching prospect who takes coaching well and is willing to do what it takes to get better. He shows great effort and busts it down the line (4.45 H-1st) to make every play close and pick up extra hits. He sets up tall in the box and like to hit the inside pitch, which he can turn on and hit with authority. His hands are strong through the point of contact and shows pop, especially to the pull side. Behind the plate, Caelen is a leader on the field with good knowledge of the game. He has the ability to block pitches to both sides of his body with sure hands and has athleticism to recover the ball quickly and keep runners stationary. Working on gaining ground with pitches and sticking them in the zone are the final steps to becoming a complete defender. Caelen is a solid ballplayer who we look forward to watching grow.

07/23/2015 - Factory Development Institute National Select Program Caelan is a versatile player that projects at the next level. He improved a lot of areas of his game and has shown coaches that he can make adjustments. Behind the plate, Caelan presents himself in a mature manner, giving his pitcher the biggest target possible to throw to. He sways from side to side, receiving the pitches with sure hands. His times to 2B will lower with quicker footwork, staying low through the throw and continuing to work on a smooth exchange. In the box, Caelan is a strong hitter with a bright future. He showed the ability to turn on pitches and drive them. His confidence and next level pop result in hits consistently. Caelan is a talented player that will continue to develop as he still has a few years (2018 grad).

07/11/2015 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 1 Caelan worked out primarily as a backstop at his most recent outing with Baseball Factory. His work ethic, and drive are commendable attributes that are clear separators for Caelan. Offensively, he had a tall setup and was consistently on-time to get to his hitting position. He whipped the barrel through the zone on a direct path and was loose through the zone with the barrel. He worked to keep his hands in a strong position to hit and generated the weight to the balls of his feet. Defensively, he had a solid base in his setup and showed carry to his throws. He worked to become more sure with the glove, and should continue to do receiving drills to boost feel. All in all - Caelan is a young player (2018) that has the intangibles to continue building his game throughout high school.

11/06/2014 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Caelan continues to show improvement at his positions as C/1B. Behind the plate, he presents a large/wide target with a flexible position. He sways his body well to catch the ball in the middle and does a solid job of blocking the ball back to the plate. Working on receiving / glove hand skills and working on lateral quickness/distance will improve Caelan's catching abilities. At the plate, he showed a good, balanced setup with a soft stride. He does a good job of tracking the ball, which lets him work deep into counts. By leveling out his swing and taking his hands to the ball, these adjustments will produce a more powerful, consistent swing. Caelan is a big backstop with strong legs and a willingness to learn, desirable characteristics of a next level player.

07/31/2014 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training at Historic Dodgertown Caelan is a big strong C/1B, whose body fits the position well. Behind the plate he shows a strong arm allowing him to control the running game, he also has the ability to make plays in foul territory. He needs to continue to work on his blocking position, and being softer with the glove hand when receiving. At the plate Caelan is big and strong and displays good bat speed, while maintaining a balanced swing allowing him to take aggressive swings. He needs to work on leveling his bat path leading to more line drives, and balls in the gaps.

02/28/2014 - Yankees Spring Training Experience Caelan is a strong, physical kid who soaks up information. Defensively, he displays good angles and big body when blocking. He has a strong arm but needs to work on getting his body in a better spot. Stretching to gain more flexibility behind the plate will help improve overall grades. Offensively, Behn displays good strength and the ball comes off his barrel well. His lower half gets through well but can focus on consistently finishing. His hands stay inside the ball too much, focus on the barrel winning the race. Overall Caelan is a great kid and will continue to improve as he works on the adjustments above.

07/26/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Caelan is a coachable kid who has a good knowledge of the game. Behind the plate he receives the ball well and is a good communicator. Areas for improvement are blocking, footwork, exchange and long toss for arm strength. Caelan showed a good knowledge of first base and a willingness to square the ball up but he needs to improve picking the ball and also his footwork around the base can get better. At the plate he has an athletic setup, decent load, centered balance, good rhythm/lower half and above average power. He needs to fix his grip, work on a better stride/load and be aggressive in the zone.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
