10/24/2018 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Cal is a coachable C prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the SoCal Classic. Behind the plate, Cal shows efficient footwork and centers the ball when blocking. He sits in an athletic stance and presents a good target to the pitcher. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws to 2B, keeping them accurate and on-line to the bag. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an atheltic stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He gets good extension on his swing with fast bat speed which leads to square contact and gap to gap power. Overall, Cal is a talented prospect who has the skill set to produce at the next level.

09/09/2018 - College PREP - Knoxville, TN Cal is a tall, broad, and athletic catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying tremendous hitting / power potential through an open setup. Hands are quick (89 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball exploding off the bat when centered. Behind the dish, he utilizes his feet well in working in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times show a range of 2.03-2.09 with accuracy and zip on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He displays a soft glove and sticks balls well in the zone. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front and he is a wall behind dish. Receiving / blocking skills show as outstanding tools that will play well at the level. With 2 years to further develop, Cal has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
