03/20/2021 - Spring Pro Training Experience - NJ (HS) Calder continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through level swing path. He stays inside the ball utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer/exchange. Pop times showed in the 2.27 range with accuracy on his throws. He shows a squared setup and presents a soft mitt out front. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front.

10/04/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Trenton, NJ Calder is a C/3B prospect who will graduate in 2023. Behind the plate, Calder shows active footwork and covers up well when blocking. He presents a good target to the pitcher and tracks the ball into his glove. His exchange is quick and he gains ground well on his throws, keeping them accurate and on-line to the 2B bag. Sitting in a more square stance can help Calder improve his overall catching skills. At 3B, Calder shows efficient footwork and covers ground well. He makes the routine plays and keeps his throws accurate and on-line across the diamond. Calder can field ground balls more efficiently by getting into a more athletic fielding position. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth getting back into his load and takes a direct swing with fast bat speed, leading to solid contact to his pull side. Driving his lower half more can help Calder produce more pop off the barrel. Overall, Calder is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
