Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

07/29/2014 - Under Armour Southwest Championships, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Cale continues to impress on the diamond. With the stick, the LH swinger shows good rhythm getting back into a strong/activated load. Barrel delivery is quick through a level path as he drives his lower 1/2 to generate torque. At the event, he went 3 for 7 with 3 singles. At 1B, Cale presents his glove and works into an athletic fielding position. He makes the backhand play smoothly and gathers well. Working from the ground-up will help to avoid getting the in-between hop. Cale also got on the bump and threw a few innings. He battles, attacking the zone and working his pitches in and out. Creating more extension on his follow through will help with effectiveness on all pitches. Crowder has skills and the work ethic that will bring success.

12/27/2013 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Cale is a two way player that plays 1B and also pitches. In the infield he has quick feet, soft hands, and showed good range. He takes the proper routes and is aggressive to the ball with good body control. On the mound the lefty is a tough look on hitters as he hides the ball well. His fastball has good sink and his changeup has good run with late movement and sink. He repeats his delivery and should be a very good pitcher as he continues to work on his craft. Offensively he has a good load, solid balance, and gets to a good launch position. His hands are quick and he delivers the barrel with good accuracy. He is a strong hitter that showed he can hit the ball to all fields with power. With his athletic abilities and knowledge of the game, Cale will be a player to watch in the future.

08/04/2013 - College PREP - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Cale is an average LHP/1B with a strong lower half that will graduate 2015. Currently, he projects best at 1B for the next level. He attacks ground balls and plays through well, presenting clean hands. Hands / feet are fluid and work well through the fielding process. He consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Throws are accurate as he gets rid of the baseball quickly but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup with rhythm. Hands are loose to and through a level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball showed range of 72-75 mph on a slight downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with slight break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, with arm side run / sink. Command / control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. With 2 years to further develop, Cale has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
