Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

07/12/2021 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition (HS) Caleb is a 1B/LHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Cape Cod Select Training & Competition. In the field, Caleb gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front with soft hands. His exchange is clean and he gains ground well on his throws, keeping them accurate to his target. Working on his footwork can help Caleb make more plays. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an open stance and takes a square stride. He gets into a simple load and rotates his core through well, driving the ball from gap to gap. Caleb can barrel up more baseballs by working through a shorter, more level swing path. On the mound, Caleb gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works inline toward the plate and finishes with a controlled landing. Caleb operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 72mph. Breaking ball sits from 60-64mph with good movement. Changeup sits at 66mph. Lengthening his arm action and extending through his release can help Caleb improve his pitch command and velocity. Overall, Caleb is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

06/18/2021 - Baseball Factory All-State Tournament (HS) Caleb continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, power potential has improved through an open setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) as he squares the ball up consistently driving it on a line. Defensively, feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean and presents out front. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date. Fastball shows a range of 69-71 mph. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

09/15/2019 - College PREP - Kansas City, KS Caleb is a solid, strong LHP/1B who has a promising future on the diamond. At 1B, he displays smooth / clean actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and he is a quality receiver. Feet are active but needs to attack balls and play through more with his body. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 64-67 mph. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with early break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Caleb has a lot of potential with time and room to continue to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
