Official Scouting Report

  • 3B/CPosition Projection

08/05/2018 - College PREP - Dublin (Columbus), OH Caleb showed hitting improvements during his last workout with the Factory. Hitting and power grades improved to 48 and 50 respectively. He is a strong hitter with an open stance, smooth timing, and solid balance. He has fast bat speed, swings on plane, and has power in his bat. Letting the ball travel and a sooner load can help solid hitting get even better. Behind the plate, Caleb has good balance, strong wrists, and he holds a low target. Caleb was not able to throw during the workout.

12/27/2017 - College PREP - Pittsburgh, PA Caleb is a well-rounded catching prospect who has a tall frame. Offensively, Caleb has an open stance with his weight on his heels. He has an open stride and partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. He has an aggressive approach with an on-plane swing path. Caleb has the ability to drive the ball to the pull side with power. Behind the plate, Caleb plays the position athletically with good footwork. He stays low and presents a solid target. Caleb moves with agile actions and does a nice job blocking the baseball. He has a clean exchange and throws from a high 3/4 arm slot. Caleb has good momentum through his release showing strong throws down to 2B. Overall, Caleb has a solid skill set on both sides of the ball with potential to get even better with development.

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Caleb is a hard worker who is very coachable. He is a gamer and plays the game the right way. With the bat, this righty stands in well with centered balance and fluid rhythm in his hands. He likes the pitch on the inner 1/2 and pulls it with pop. More power potential is there with more lower 1/2 drive and more extension through contact. Once on base, he's aggressive and isn't afraid to take the extra bag and put himself into scoring position. Behind the plate, Boring sits in well and tracks pitches into a soft mitt. He has a clean exchange and works in-line toward his target at 2B - pop times now at 2.30. Continuing to work on his blocking technique and lateral movements will help to take his skills behind the plate to the next level. Only a 2020 grad - Caleb will only continue to develop and physically mature to get to where he wants to be.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
