Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2BPosition Projection

04/09/2017 - College PREP - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Caleb continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and he has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, he only showed as a LHH and has improved his abilities. Hands are quick / loose and work to and through a level swing path creating extension. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Lower half works well through the swing and shows good barrel accuracy with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. At 2B, feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Hands are soft / sure and he presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Arm strength has improved as well (81 mph velocity) with throws displaying life, accuracy, and carry.

09/13/2015 - National Tryout Plus - La Verne (Los Angeles), CA Caleb only showed at 3B at the event and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Defensive grade has improved as well, displaying smooth / fluid actions. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process. Feet are action as he works to get around ground balls and presents hands / glove well out front. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hands work through a level swing path through a solid base. Hands are loose as he makes consistent contact as works to stay inside the ball utilizing all fields. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to be on time. Power numbers will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more aggressively.

01/25/2015 - National Tryout - San Diego, CA Caleb continues to progress on the diamond. At 3B, he hustles to come and get the ground ball with athletic actions. He funnels to a quick transfer/exchange with accuracy on his throws. He plays through the ball well and gains ground toward 1B. At the plate, this switch hitter shows similar abilities from both sides. He has an athletic setup with good balance. Swing is level to and through the zone as he connects and hits line-drives. A shorter/more direct swing path with more bat speed will result in increased pop/power at the plate. On the mound, this RHP works through a compact delivery in-line toward the dish. FB still tops out in the upper 60's while breaking ball has 10/4 shape. Effectiveness on his CB will improve with a more consistent release point (staying on top). This young (2019 grad) has skills with still a ton of time to develop his game.

09/14/2014 - National Tryout - Azusa, CA Caleb worked out at both 3B and on the mound during his time in Azusa. Defensively, Caleb centers the ball well, his hands are playable, and he throws with some accuracy across the diamond. On the hill, Caleb keeps his eyes on target, his delivery is compact, and he finishes in a compete position. Offensively, Caleb has a square set-up, a still head, and he puts the bat on the ball.

07/20/2014 - California Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14) Caleb is a switch-hitting third baseman who will graduate in 2019. Defensively he is athletic, fields out front and works through the ball well. Caleb needs to improve his knowledge of third base responsibility, smooth out actions and take better angles to the ball. From both sides of the plate he displayed a good setup, balance and a short/compact swing. Caleb can improve by standing a little taller, keeping head still and using the entire field. Lots of reps left-handed will help to make him more comfortable as well.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
