04/02/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Caleb continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved the most through a squared setup. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. In the OF, he displays smooth / athletic actions. He utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles and utilizes two hands well through the fielding process. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. He is aggressive but needs to work to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program.

08/31/2013 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 12-14) Caleb is a big strong kid with an upside as a complete hitter. Caleb shows the ability to let his body and strength work for him, which allows him to hit to all fields with power. The most important thing that Caleb needs to work on, is controlling his leg kick in the swing. He tends to let his leg kick get to high, which causes him to rush his front foot down to start the swing. When he rushes the front foot the rest of the body rushes during the swing, which causes the body to get out of control during the swing, losing control of the barrel and also losing power during the swing. If he focuses on shortening the stride and also slowing the load down, he will have more control of the swing, and more importantly his swing will be more consistent.

08/05/2013 - College PREP - Bear (Wilmington), DE Caleb is a (5'7/130 lbs) OF/3B. Caleb is a 2018 graduate with a lot of potential as a position player. As a very active outfielder, Caleb works behind fly balls and gets in good fielding position setting up to make solid throws to the cut man. On ground ball plays, Caleb works through the baseball with a clean exchange for accurate throws to target. Offensively, he displays a square setup with a short stride. He is an aggressive hitter and should continue to use his lower half for quicker bat speed through the hitting zone for consistent contact to all fields. By taking his hands directly to the baseball, Caleb will show barrel accuracy. At 3B, Caleb shows sure hands and moves around ground balls well. Fielding the baseball out in front of his stance consistently will allow Caleb to keep his feet under him for stronger throws to each base. With some focus and development on a few areas indicated above, Caleb can improve his overall abilities, both in the OF and at 3B.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
