Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

03/13/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Indianapolis, IN Caleb showed in the OF plus on the mound for the first time at the event and has really improved his baseball abilities. He projects well at both positions. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a well above average runner at 7.13. At the plate is where he has improved the most through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus as he makes consistent hard contact and works to stay inside the ball, displaying gap to gap pop. In the OF, defensive abilities are now outstanding. He utilizes his quick feet well in covering a lot of ground. He takes proper routes/angles in tracking down balls. Hands are sure as he presents well out front, catching balls at its highest point. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 78-79 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and displays sinking action. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Caleb has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from college coaches, possibly as a two-way guy.

12/20/2014 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 Caleb is a young/athletic OF with a lot of upside in the field and the plate. Defensively, he showed an extremely strong and accurate arm. He made good throws to all bases and has solid carry. He did a good job of attacking groundballs and taking good routes and angles. At the plate, this RHH displays a balanced approach with rhythm to load. He has quiet actions, tracking the ball into the zone. Swing is short/direct/quick as he barrels the ball up consistently. He did a great job of making consistent/solid contact, putting pressure on the defense. Caleb is a young player who has a high ceiling.

09/07/2014 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Caleb is a lean, athletic OF that will graduate in 2018. Defensive grades are solid, displaying smooth/clean actions. He utilizes his aggressive/athletic feet well in taking proper routes/angles to track balls down. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls but needs to play through with momentum to his target, plus increase foot quickness to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate with carry as he displays solid arm strength as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, he shows a balanced and athletic setup. Hands are quick flashing bat speed and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. With 3 years to further develop, Caleb has the makings of a special type player and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
