Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

01/12/2018 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at Historic Dodgertown Caleb is a hardworking player who is very coachable and has a great attitude. At 3B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Hands are clean and present well out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but will benefit by playing through with his body. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup and an aggressive approach. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays on plane and makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 47-51 mph. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

12/27/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Pittsburgh, PA Caleb is a young, RHP/3B with a thin frame. On the mound, Caleb works in good tempo, he keeps his eyes on target, and has good direction toward home. He separates on time, has good glove side lead, and finishes in a complete position. At 3B, Caleb shows some range, he presents his glove well, and gains momentum with consistency to his target. Offensively, Caleb has a square set-up, he tracks the ball well, and uses his lower body. He has a long swing through the ball and swings on-plane. Caleb can improve his skills with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Long toss
2. Loosen arm action
3. Balance point
Infield
1. Field out front
2. Arm strength
3. Quicken feet
Offense
1. Rhythm/timing
2. Bat speed
3. Lower 1/2

12/09/2017 - Accelerated Hitting Weekend PHS- Columbia, MD Caleb is a very hard working prospect and made several adjustments during the Hitting Accelerated Training weekend. At the plate, Caleb has an athletic stance and shows good tempo. He loads his hands back into the drive position and uses his lower half. Continuing to get the front foot down early will allow Caleb to identify pitches. He needs continue to be aggressive on the fastball and attack the inside part of the ball. Attacking the inside part of the ball will keep his barrel on plane and create extension through contact. Caleb will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

10/29/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Pittsburgh, PA Caleb is a 3B/RHP who will graduate in 2024. Defensively at 3B, he works around the GB with fluid footwork. He fields GB's in a low/athletic position with soft hands and has a clean transfer to throw. On the hill, this RHP gathers over the rubber with a (FB, CH). He delivers with loose/quick arm action and stays directional towards home plate. With the bat, Caleb shows an athletic/square setup. He takes aggressive hacks through the zone and looks to drive pitches back up through the middle of the field. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Loose actions
2. Improve backhand footwork
3. Arm strength (long toss)
Pitching
1. Develop CH
2. Lower 1/2 drive off rubber
3. Finish
Offense
1. Develop a load
2. Lower 1/2 drive
3. Level out swing path

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
