Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

06/22/2012 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Caleb worked out both on the mound and at 1st base during his time in Omaha. On the hill, Caleb has a nice / loose arm action, a controlled delivery, and his FB touches 83 MPH. He is around the zone with his pitches and gets outs. At 1st base, Caleb has good lateral range, he keeps the ball out in front, and he can pick it out of the dirt. Offensively, Caleb has a square set-up, proper separation, and good bat whip. He makes solid contact and he has pop potential in his bat.

04/22/2012 - College PREP - Albuquerque, NM Caleb is a lanky and athletic LHP that will graduate in 2014. He shows a repeatable delivery with a clean arm circle and command of all pitches. He throws his fastball in the 75-77 mph range with late run to it and he commands both sides of the plate. His best off-speed pitch is his split finger which shows good downward movement with good arm speed to it. He throws a decent changeup with some sink to it but he just needs to continue to work on his feel for that pitch. At times he tends to have a stiff wrist which causes him to throw the pitch in the ground. For mound effectiveness to improve, he needs to develop better extension on his finish. If he finishes out over his front leg he will have better balance and stay more consistent with his pitches. Caleb shows great mound presence and will be a player to follow over the next few years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
