10/22/2014 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Caleb showed some of his best, most consistent ability to date at the UA So Cal Classic with Baseball Factory. Defensively, he made the routine plays with sure hands and threw with fluidity to first. He was solid with his backhand mechanics and was situationally aware of his responsibilities at 2B. Being more aggressive with his lower half to throw and taking more efficient first steps will increase his level of play in the middle of the field. Offensively, he displayed a compact delivery of the barrel, generating good bat speed with barrel accuracy. He was patient at the dish to get his pitch and had a good two-strike approach. Continued use of the entire field and situational mastery are essential to his longevity at the next level.

05/04/2014 - College PREP - Lakewood (Denver), CO Caleb only showed at 2B at the event but has improved his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.09 runner. Defensive grade has improved as well, now showing superior abilities. He utilizes his quick / athletic feet well in his lateral movements, displaying superior range in the MIF. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process as he shows big play potential. Athletic abilities are shown off his feeds / turns of the double play and slow rollers. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hands work direct to the ball, utilizing the middle of the field well. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more.

10/16/2013 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Caleb is a thin, athletic, 2-way player who plays 2nd base and OF. In the INF, Caleb has a controlled approach, he gets his glove down early, and his feet are active. He plays through the ball, has a clean exchange, and he throws with a free arm action to his target. Caleb can improve by fielding further out front, and playing on the balls of his feet. In the OF, Caleb gets in a good ready position, he tracks the ball well, and he makes plays. He will need to sharpen his routes and quicken his 1st step for OF skills to get better. Offensively, Caleb has an upright set-up, a level swing, and a square stride. He makes solid contact, he rotates his hips through, and he hits hard to the pull side. If Caleb can let the ball travel, and use more lower 1/2, offensive numbers can spike.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
