10/10/2018 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Calvin is a long and athletic 2019 LHP prospect that works hard and showed the ability to play the field as well. At the plate, Calvin starts in a squared stance, gets his front foot down on time, and stays balanced through contact. He needs to continue to get his hands into the drive position and attack the inside part of the ball. On the bump, Calvin separates on time, extends thru his delivery, and works north to south. He shows the ability to adjust pitch to pitch. His fastball shows tail, his curveball has 11-7 break, and his changeup has a good differential speed from his fastball. Calvin will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

03/18/2018 - College PREP - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Calvin is a lanky LHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good tempo through a strong balance point. Fastball showed a range of 77-79 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with late / sharp break and shows as a quality pitch. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a feel for pitch with sinking action. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Calvin has a big upside on the mound and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
