Official Scouting Report

11/25/2018 - College PREP - Pearland (Houston), TX Calvin is an athletic C prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. Behind the plate, Calvin shows fluid footwork and covers up well when blocking. He sits in an athletic stance and tracks the ball well. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws to 2B, keeping them on-line to the bag. Sitting in a more square stance can help Calvin improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a short stride. He is shows a smooth rhythm and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing with decent bat speed which leads to loud contact and line drives into the gaps. Calvin can improve as a hitter by working more of a load into his swing. Overall, Calvin is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

10/21/2018 - College PREP - Conroe, TX Calvin is an athletic and talented 2020 utility prospect. In the OF, Calvin is on time with his prep step, starts in an athletic position, and reads the ball off the bat. Hes aggressive on ground balls and creates momentum in his lower half when throwing to the plate. At 3B, Calvin is on time with his prep step, he presents a low/early glove, and creates angles to the ball. He makes the routine play, has a clean exchange, and makes accurate throws across the diamond. At the plate, Calvin starts in a squared stance, gets his front foot down on time, and has good rhythm in his load. He has quick hands, he gets the barrel to the ball, and drives the ball to all fields. Calvin will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
