Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

06/30/2023 - National Showcase - Trenton, NJ Calvin is a strong and talented 1B/LHP in the 2025 class. In the field, he shows active feet and is in control of his body. Creates a positive 1st step and proper angles in his pursuit of the ball. His exchanges are clean and gets to a loose ¾ slot for accurate feeds. Working to sink his hips in the fielding position will allow him to stay under the ball and adjust to hops. On the mound, he stays directional to the mitt and creates solid extension. His FB touched 72 and was in the zone with running action. His CB sat 54-55 and 2-8 shape. His CH has sinking action and deception. In the batters box, he swing with intent. He stays behind the baseball and displays a smooth load. Has strong hands and explosive bat speed (91 exit velo). Swing path is short and when he keeps his front side soft, the ball explodes off the bat.

10/19/2022 - Arizona Easton Fall Classic - Under Class (2025-2026) Calvin is a coachable 1B prospect who showcased his skills during the Arizona Easton Fall Classic. In the field, Calvin gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. His exchange is clean and he makes accurate throws with carry through his target. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a centered stride. He is controlled getting his hands activated and hits against a strong front side. He works through a level swing and drives the ball to his pull side. Overall, Calvin is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

09/18/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Brockton (Boston), MA Calvin is a 1B/LHP prospect who will graduate in 2025. Medium frame athletic build with strength present and room to add throughout. At 1B, he starts with active/efficient feet and closes distance on batted balls. Takes aggressive angles to baseball, with ability to pick out hops, and fields from an athletic/low fielding position. Made accurate throws to second base from a 3/4 release point with an arm velocity up to 78mph. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on-time. Throws a FB that sits 69-72mph with some arm side run, a 1/7 shaped curve ball that he throws with good arm speed, and a changeup that he throws with FB arm speed. A left-handed hitter, he starts with an upright and even stance. He gets his hands separated, with intent in swing, and keeps the barrel in the zone for a long time. Showed a fast barrel through the hitting zone with ability to get on-plane early. He square up balls to the pull side with a bat exit velocity up to 84mph. With 3 years of continued growth and development, we foresee Calvin having a bright future on the baseball diamond.

07/13/2022 - All-In Membership - Rindge, NH Calvin is an athletic 1B/LHP who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying well above average hitting abilities with outstanding power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick (89 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At 1B, defensive abilities are solid as he shows smooth / fluid actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean and presents out front. He moves well laterally and utilizes his foot quickness (7.39 60 time) in covering ground. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 70-71 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 3 years to further develop, Calvin has a lot of potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
