On the mound, this righty has strong glove-side lead as he drives off the rubber in-line toward the dish. FB shows slight run as he fills up the zone with strikes. Changeup is best off-speed pitch throwing it with FB arm speed -as it will get in on the RHH's. At 3B - Tony creates good angles when working around the GB smoothly. He has a clean exchange and fires accurate throws across the diamond. Offensively, Tumpkin shows fluid rhythm to load as he waits for his pitch. Swing is level as he works to engage his lower 1/2. He hits the ball where it's pitched and sprays it to all parts of the field. More extension through contact will help to increase power at the plate. Tony has a ton of upside with still time to develop his skills.

09/21/2014 - National Tryout - Detroit, MI Tony is showing tremendous improvement in his baseball abilities with the majority of his numbers improving. Defensively, at 3B where he is projected, he has soft, sure hands and gives accurate throws to his target. Loosening up his actions at the hot corner and keeping a short arm action will improve his abilities. On the mound, this RHP has solid stuff. He has good balance with a smooth stride to a soft landing. Developing a more direct plane to the plate will give him a more consistent, repeatable delivery. On the mound Tony gets to a good balance point, has a fluid arm action, and good tempo. His 3/4 arm slot allows his fastball to have late run in the zone and he consistently works down in the zone. With more leg drive, Tony could add more velocity and become a solid pitcher with more arm strength. At the plate he has a good load, strong balance, and good rhythm. His hands are quick and he delivers the barrel with good accuracy. He has an advanced approach at the plate and could be a potential power threat as he gets older.

11/14/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Tony is a good young, two-way player with good size who continues to develop positively as a RHP and 3B. Defensively, he flows through the ball with decent throwing action and has the potential to develop a live arm. Offensively, he has a controlled, athletic setup, loads well and makes hard, strong contact. He continues to develop consistency as a hitter and continues to get better with driving the ball to the opposite field,. Coaches enjoy his ability to rise to the challenge, his on field presence, and his team first attitude.

07/07/2013 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14) While at the Cape Cod event Tony played corner infield and pitched. On the mound he displayed a controlled delivery and he threw strikes but he needs to more consistent with finish and work downhill to target. As a fielder Tony needs to improve lateral quickness/agility and long toss to strengthen his arm. At the plate is where Tony really showed his best potential. He can improve by having an overall smoother approach and extending through the ball.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
