Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

05/13/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Spokane, WA Carmen continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. At 2B, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active and he displays proper footwork as he plays through balls with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Throws are accurate with zip across the diamond. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are strong and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 71-78 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late break. He shows a feel for the split finger as he maintains arm speed with arm side run. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

12/27/2017 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) Carmen is a long, lean two-way player who is continuing to improve his game. His arm has gotten stronger both on the mound and from second as he reaches the upper 70's with his fastball and makes good throws in the field. He shows an easy path at the plate with quick hands that drive through the ball. He is a line drive hitter who shows the ability to use all fields for base hits. At second, he sets up with a strong base and is agile moving laterally to field. He gets his glove extended to field the ball cleanly and makes good feeds and turns at the bag. On the hill, this tall right-hander features a fastball, curveball, split mix to keep hitters off balance as he works aggressively in the zone from a low 3/4 arm slot. He shows imposing presence on the mound and gets good drive from his lower half to work down the mound and towards the plate with a quick arm. Carmen is a player we look forward to watching develop.

10/01/2017 - College PREP - Spokane, WA Carmen is a lean 2B who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a compact swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Lower half works well through the swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. At 2B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he takes good first steps but needs to attack balls and play through with his body. Glove action is clean but will benefit by presenting more out front. Range will increase as he improves his foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Carmen has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
