Official Scouting Report

  • 5Class Rating
  • RHP/1BPosition Projection

07/18/2017 - College PREP - Dallas, TX Carson is a broad-shouldered RHP/1B prospect who has a well-rounded skill set and graduates in 2018. On the mound, Carson has a balanced delivery throwing from a 3/4 arm slot with a clean arm action. He stays square to home plate with a controlled landing. Carson features 3 pitches and does a nice job changing speeds. He commands his fastball at 73-81 MPH showing good run movement. His slider has late break and his changeup is deceptive. In the field, Carson plays with active, effective footwork with solid pre-pitch actions and the proper angles to cover a wide range. He presents his glove and fields the ball in a low, athletic position. Carson has a quick, clean exchange leading into a loose, quick arm action throwing from a low 3/4 arm slot. He plays with momentum through the baseball and has a quick release showing consistent throws across the diamond. Offensively, Carson has a square setup with his weight in the back of his stance. He has a good load with a short stride and partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Carson shows fast bat speed with an aggressive approach. He has the ability to drive the ball to each gap with power. Overall, Carson is a versatile prospect who has an athletic build and upside to take his game to the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
