12/27/2018 - 2018 Inaugural West Coast Winter Classic - La Verne, CA Carson is a coachable RHP/3B prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the West Coast Winter Classic. On the mound, Carson gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He stays inline towards the plate and keeps his pitches around the zone. Carson shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 56mph. Breaking ball sits from 47-51mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 51-53mph as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Lengthening his arm action can help Carson improve as a pitcher. In the field, Carson fields the ball out in front of his body and makes accurate throws to his target. Carson can improve defensively by increasing his lateral range. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride. He takes a smooth swing with decent bat speed, leading to solid contact. Driving his lower half more can help Carson improve as a hitter. With four more years to develop, Carson has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

10/28/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Santa Rosa, CA Carson is a tall, athletic, 2-way player who pitches and plays 3B. On the mound, Carson has good balance over the rubber, a clean arm circle, and he gets good extension on his pitches. He mixes his pitches well, works down in the zone, and throws strikes. At 3B, Carson has active feet, agile movements, and good pre-pitch actions. His hands are soft, his exchange is clean, and throws with some accuracy across the diamond. Offensively, Carson has an open stance, a square stride, and good balance. He gets solid extension through the ball and works it to the opposite field. Carson can further improve skills with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
