Official Scouting Report

  • 1B/OFPosition Projection

05/21/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Glen Allen (Richmond), VA Carson showed at 1B and in the OF for the first time at the event. He continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, he improved his power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive approach. He makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through balls more with momentum to his target. Range will continue to improve as he increases foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program.

07/29/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Carson is a tall, athletic kid who shows versatility in the field. He has a very strong arm from the outfield and to the bases. He squares the ball up well and fields the ball out front. His throws are strong and accurate with a good stroke. Working from the ground up will help Carson make the tough plays and take hits away from batters. At the plate, this prospect has a sound approach with good tracking ability. He loads to a power position to launch from and keeps his head down through his swing. Carson is a prospect we look forward to watching grow.

05/15/2016 - College PREP - Glen Allen (Richmond), VA Carson is a lean 1B who will graduate in 2020. At 1B, feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and recovers well. He display clean hands and is an accurate thrower. Presenting his glove more out in front will help to avoid getting the in between hop. Continuing to increase foot quickness will aid in improving range. At the plate, he shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. With 4 years to further develop, Carson has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
