12/27/2017 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) Carson continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.15 runner. At the plate, hitting abilities are now outstanding through an open setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. At the event, he was 5 for 10 with 2 3B. In the OF, he displays smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls but needs to play through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he utilizes his quick feet well in covering a lot ground. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 75-77 mph with tailing action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for pitch with arm side run. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength and develop off speed pitches. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and a very hard worker.

08/06/2017 - College PREP - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Carson is a muscular, athletic OF/RHP who has promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.28. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying solid hitting abilities with outstanding power potential through an open setup. Hands are quick (89 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a plus feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. In the OF, he utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles and utilizes two hands well through the fielding process. He works to get behind balls playing through with momentum to his target. Range is outstanding as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. Arm strength is outstanding (84 mph velocity) with life, accuracy, and on line carry to his throws. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 77-79 mph. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Carson has the makings of a special type player with time and room to improve his game, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
