Official Scouting Report

  • 5Class Rating
  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

03/17/2019 - College PREP - Tomball (Houston), TX Carson is a LHP/1B prospect who will graduate in 2020. On the mound, Carson gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through his release, commanding his pitches well. Carson shows a four pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 80mph with sinking action. Curveball sits from 66-67mph with 2-8 break. Slider sits at 68mph. Changeup sits from 70-72mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Striding square towards the plate can help Carson improve as a pitcher. In the field Carson shows fluid footwork and is agile covering ground. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate with carry through his target. Carson can improve defensively by consistently getting his body in front of the ball. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid getting into his load and maintains center balance. He takes a level swing with decent bat speed, leading to consistent contact to all fields. Getting his hands activated in his load can help Carson improve as a hitter. Overall, Carson is a solid prospect who should find success in this, his junior season.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
