02/18/2022 - Baseball Factory Opening Day Classic (HS - East) Carston is a class of 2025 SS/RHP prospect. He shows off a medium sized frame with lots of room to continue to add strength. In the field, he shows good footwork and plays downhill. Shows good glove actions through the ball and does a good job picking out hops. Shows some athleticism with ability to change arm slots and has strong throws across. At the plate, he does a good job staying in the middle of the field and getting extension. Good hip actions and aggressive swings help show off some gap to gap potential power. Carston is a good young player that we hope to see again.

02/14/2021 - National Evaluation and Tryout - Hoover (Birmingham), AL Carston continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At SS, defensive abilities has improved as he displays proper footwork buts to attacks balls and play through well with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. At the plate, hitting / power potential have improved through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 62 mph. Fastball shows a range of 61-62 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

08/05/2019 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training at Pirate City (Ages 12-14) Carston is a coachable SS/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Pro Select Training at Pirate City. In the field, Carston fields in a square position and works to make accurate throws to his target. Increasing his lateral range can help Carston improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and makes solid contact. Carston can improve as a hitter by working a smoother rhythm into his load. On the mound, Carston shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 54mph. Breaking ball sits from 48-49mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 45-47mph. Staying inline towards the plate can help Carston improve as a pitcher. With six more years to develop, Carston has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

06/09/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Hoover (Birmingham), AL Carston is a young, solid, 2-way player who plays SS and RHP. In the INF, Carston has playable hands and feet, and he fields the ball aggressively. He has a clean exchange and a strong arm across the diamond. On the mound, Carston works in good tempo, he separates his hands on time, and has good arm extension toward the plate. Offensively, Carston has an open stance, good balance, and a level swing path. He has a direct barrel and uses some lower body. Overall abilities can further improve with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
